NOTICE OF CITY OF BUFORD

GENERAL MUNICIPAL ELECTION

            Pursuant to O.C.G.A. § 21-2-1 et seq. and all other applicable Georgia laws, please be advised that on November 7, 2023, a general municipal election will be held in the City of Buford, Georgia, at which time there will be submitted to the qualified voters of said City for their determination the expired term of City Commissioner, Post 1 (to succeed Phillip Beard); School Board Member (to succeed Daren Perkins); School Board Member (to succeed Matt Peevy).

            Advance, in person voting shall be available between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. at Buford City Hall, beginning October 16, 2023 through November 3, 2023 including Saturday October 21, 2021 and Saturday, October 28, 2023. 

            The election shall be held on Tuesday, November 7, 2023, between the hours of 7:00 o'clock a.m. and 7:00 o'clock p.m. in the City of Buford, Buford City Hall, 2300 Buford Highway

            All duly qualified electors of the City of Buford are urged to participate.  Those qualified to vote at said election shall be determined in all respects in accordance and in conformity with the laws of the State of Georgia.

            Those interested in qualifying for said offices should be advised that the respective qualification period shall run from Monday, August 21, 2023 at 9:00 a.m. through Wednesday, August 23, 2023 at 4:30 p.m. at Buford City Hall.  Qualification will close at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, August 23, 2023.  Individuals intending to qualify shall remit the sum of $35.00.

            The registration deadline to vote in this election shall close at 5:00 p.m., October 10, 2023.

            A run-off election, if necessary, shall be held on December 5, 2023.

AVISO DE LA CIUDAD DE BUFORD ELECCION MUNICIPAL GENERAL

 De acuerdo con la ley de Georgia O.C.G.A & 21-2-1 et seq. y las demas apilicables, se le da aviso que se realizara una Eleccion General Municipal en Noviembre 7, 2023, la cual se llevara acabo en la Ciudad de Buford, Georgia, en cuyo momento se presentara a los votantes calificados de dicha Ciudad. Para su determinacion, de el tiempo expirado de el Comisionado de la Ciudad, Puesto 1 (para suceder a Phillip Beard); Miembro de el Sistema escolar (para suceder a Daren Perkins); Miembro de el Sistema Escolar (para suceder a Matt Peevy).

               Los puestos de votacion estaran abiertos por adelantado, para votar en persona en Octubre 16, 2021 asta Noviembre 3, 2023 desde las 9:00 a.m. asta las 5:00 p.m. de la tarde y el Sabado, Octubre 21, 2023 y Sabado, Octubre, 28, 2023 desde las 9:00 a.m. asta las 5:00 p.m. En la Ciudad de Buford, 2300 Buford Highway, Buford, Georgia.

               La eleccion se llevara acabo el dia Martes, Noviembre 7, 2023 a las 7:00 a.m. asta las 7:00 p.m. en la ciudad de Buford.

                Todos los electores calificados son instados a participar. Aquellos calificados a votar en dicha eleccion se les determinara en todos los aspectos bajo la conformidad de las leyes de el Estado de Georgia.

 Aquellos interesados en calificar para dichos oficios se les avisa que el tiempo de calificar sera dentro de el periodo de el dia Lunes, Agosto 21, 2023 desde las 9:00 a.m. asta el dia Miercoles, Agosto 23, 2023 a las 4:30 p.m. en Buford City Hall. La participacion se cerrara a las 4:30 p.m. el dia Miercoles, Agosto 23 2021.  Aquellos que desean participar deveran remitir la suma de $35.00 dolares.

The Chairperson of the City Commission is elected amongst the three commissioners at the organizational meeting of the Commission each January.  The Chairman of the Commission serves as the ex-officio member and as the Chairperson of the Board of Education per the City’s Charter.

City Municipal non-partisan elections are scheduled and conducted in accordance with the Georgia Election Code and the City of Buford Charter and are generally held in odd years.  The candidate receiving a majority of the votes cast for any city office shall be elected.

Las elecciones municipales no partidistas están programadas y llevadas  a cabo de acuerdo con el Código Electoral de Georgia y el estatuto de la Ciudad de Buford y generalmente se llevan a cabo en años impares. Voting in a City of Buford Municipal Election takes place at Buford City Hall, 2300 Buford Highway, Buford, Georgia 30518 regardless of polling places for the county, state or federal elections.

Candidates for City Commission and Board of Education:

Candidate Requirements:

There are several requirements for becoming a candidate in a city election.  Once you have decided which seat you wish to be elected for, during the advertised qualifying dates, you should obtain a qualifying packet from the City Clerk’s Office at City Hall.  The requirements include the following:

1.    You must be eligible to vote in the election in which you are a candidate (must be a registered voter).

2.    You must have been a legal resident of the City of Buford for at least six (6) months.

3.    You must be a citizen of the United States.

4.    You have never been convicted and sentenced in any court of competent jurisdiction for a fraudulent violation of primary or election laws, malfeasance in office, or felony involving moral turpitude or conviction of domestic violence in the laws of this state of the United States, or, if so convicted, that your civil rights have been restored, and at least ten years have elapsed from the date of the completion of the sentence.

5.    You must not be a defaulter for any federal, state, county, municipal, or school system taxes.

6.    You must pay the applicable filing fees at the time of qualifying.
