Job Summary

Wastewater Treatment Plant Trainee

Will receive training while assisting other Operators at the Wastewater Treatment Plant daily, which will help prepare trainee to obtain certification(s). Candidate will monitor all equipment, adding or deleting chemicals, and assuring the effluent water meets all applicable standards for purity. No experience necessary. Must at a minimum have a High School Diploma or equivalent and obtain a Class III Georgia Wastewater Treatment License within one year of employment.

 

Major Duties

=         Hourly, daily, weekly inspections of equipment including documentation.

=         Basic maintenance of all equipment throughout the facility.

=         Sludge dewatering.

=         Assists in controlling wastewater treatment plant operations in accordance with all established regulations, standards, and procedures; conducts visual plant inspections and monitors plant operations/processes to ensure proper operations and to detect equipment failures, potential leaks, or problem situations; makes adjustments in plant operations as appropriate; performs preventative maintenance checks and procedures on plant equipment; reports faulty equipment or problem situations to appropriate personnel.

=         Assists in collecting wastewater samples for chemical analysis; assists in conducting daily chemical tests to determine the chemical composition of water, to control quality, and to ensure compliance with federal and state regulations; logs test results on daily log sheets.

=         Performs plant maintenance, building maintenance, grounds maintenance, or general/manual tasks in support of department operations, which may include repairing pumps, cleaning clarifiers, backwashing filters, cleaning laboratory facilities, cleaning doors/windows, painting surfaces, mowing grass, edging/trimming landscaped areas, cutting shrubbery/brush, shoveling materials, raking ground areas, loading/unloading materials, or lifting/moving heavy materials.

=         Operates various machinery, equipment and tools associated with plant operations, which may include a chemical feeder, pumps, meters, gauges, multimeter, DO probe, bobcat, mower, weed eater, mechanic tools, hand tools or testing materials.

=         Follows safety procedures, utilizes safety equipment, and monitors work environment to ensure safety of employees and other individuals.

=         Prepares or completes various forms, reports, correspondence, logs, charts, flow charts, inspection reports, maintenance records, and other documents.

=         Other duties as required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT

=         The work is typically performed while intermittently sitting, standing, stooping, or walking. The employee frequently lifts light and heavy objects, makes variable observations including shades of color and physical water quality characteristics, listens to equipment for operational sound variances, and sense of smell for biological process issues.

=        Outdoor work is required and can occur during inclement weather conditions. The employee is exposed to industrial chemicals, dirt, dust, grease, and noise.

Skills

=         Ability to read, write and perform mathematical calculations at a level commonly associated with the completion of high school or equivalent.

=         Possession of valid driver’s license issued by the State of Georgia.

=         High school diploma or equivalent.

CONPENSATION

 

=        $14.00 - $16.00 Per hour based on Experience.
